Learning Outcomes

By the end of this online course delegates will:
  • Have an understanding of the purpose of supervision in the helping professions.

  • Have an understanding of Eurocentric and African centered approaches to supervision, and the need to de-colonise supervision. 

  • Have increased knowledge of the paradigm of African psychology, why it is needed, and how it can be applied to diverse people (particularly those of African ancestry).

  • Be able to explore issues of discrimination and the 7Ds of oppression which may or may not apply in supervision.

  • Have increased knowledge of the concept of power from an African-centred perspective.

  • Be able to describe supervisee/supervisor issues pertinent to people of African ancestry, and increased knowledge of tools for emotional and spiritual upliftment.

Dr Erica Mapule McInnis is a Doctor of Clinical Psychology (UK) and Director and Principal Chartered Clinical Psychologist with Nubia Wellness and Healing. She is the developer of 'Know Thy Self- Adinkra Cards' and the 'African-centred Wellness Journal', tools developed for self exploration based on traditional Ashanti culture. She has 22 years experience working for the National Health Service (NHS) and currently facilitates African psychology seminars, presentations and workshops. She is not just of the people but for the people!
